The Little Things: Library Drive-Thru Book Drop

In "The Little Things," which runs every other Friday on New Canaan Patch, we post—and invite you to contribute—a photo and caption that record small things we may not normally notice that make big differences.

[Editor's Note: "The Little Things" runs on alternate Fridays to "Really?" If you'd like to upload your own photos to either feature, do so, and if you have suggestions on good topics for either, email New Canaan Patch editor Lisa Buchman at lisab@patch.com.]

The very nice reference desk worker at New Canaan Library on Thursday seemed almost surprised that I wanted to take a photo of a patron using the drive-thru book drop for this feature.

Truth is, many libraries have no such feature—including Ferguson Library in downtown Stamford, which already is a bear for parking—and it's a wonderful amenity at New Canaan Library even if we often take it for granted. While I waited for a car to come and use it, I saw a lot of drivers throw their cars into neutral and use the regular book drop up against the library. When you're in a rush or checking off errands, when weather is nasty or you just don't feel like parking your car for all of 60 seconds, the drive-thru is a great option.

Someone from the library needs to go out there and haul the books back inside, so here's a "thank you" to the staff for doing that.
