New Canaan Juvenile Charged with Marijuana Possession

A juvenile teen from New Canaan faces drug charges following a traffic stop last week, according to police.

Sgt. Carol Orginc said an officer following behind a vehicle traveling at an unreasonable speed at approximately 10 p.m. Monday, August 5, conducted a traffic stop at Lapham Road and Old Stamford Road.

When the officer approached the operator, he allegedly detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Ogrinc said the operator, a 17-year-old male, stated he'd been smoking marijuana earlier, but also told the officer there was marijuana in the vehicle, she said.
