Cyclist Dies from Injuries Sustained in Bicycle Accident

Police say no motor vehicle was involved in the incident.

Police have offered an update to a bicycle accident reported on Patch on Saturday afternoon.

On Thursday, August 26 at approximately 1:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a bicyclist lying in the road in the area of North Wilton Road, police said in a press release.  Police identified the cyclist Michael Bookstone, 58, of Stamford.  Bookstone was conscious but unresponsive when officers arrived.  He was transported to Norwalk Hospital by New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps.  Bookstone was not wearing a helmet. 

On Saturday, Norwalk Hospital notified the Police Department that Bookstone had died from his injuries.

"We determined that there was no vehicle involved in the accident," Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said. "There may have been an underlying medical condition that caused the accident."

The accident remains under investigation.
