False alarms, close calls, a roof on fire, and helping our neighbors in Norwalk.


Roof Fire on Wahackme Rd

Fire Chief Edward Karl had high praise for the first responders to the roof fire at 182 Wahackme Road on Monday, August 9. He said the men did a "phenomenal job" containing the blaze and saving the structure.  The fire was started by a malfunctioning ice melt system on the roof.

Mutual aid to Norwalk firefighters

On Friday morning, August 13, New Canaan Fire Co. sent two trucks to Norwalk to back up the city firefighters as they battled a major fire at 45 Wall St. 


Close calls

On Sunday, August 8, the department responded to a homeowner's call about a fire in a pool heater situated next to a pool house at 1053 Valley Road.  The fire was out by the time trucks arrived.

At 7:30 Sunday evening fire officials received a call about wires down near 201 Mill Road.  Wires caught in pine trees had caught fire and smoke was reported.  CL&P arrived on the scene in an hour.

A brush fire reported at 12:11 p.m. on Monday afternoon at the intersection of Oenoke Ridge and Lambert Road was quickly contained, and firefighters disconnected a battery to contain a car fire at a Merritt Parkway gas station later that day.

Bike accident

Firefighters responded to a call from a resident at 87 Old Stamford Road about a bicycle accident at a nearby baseball field.  A boy had fallen off his bike and was bleeding from a leg injury.  The fire department called an ambulance for the child.

Fluid Spill from car accidents

The fire department responded to three calls to clean fluid leaks following car accidents last weekend.  The first was on Friday afternoon, on East Avenue.  Two were on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of Maple St. and South Ave., and the other at 11:30 p.m. on Forest St.

False alarms

Between Saturday, August 7 and Friday, August 13, the department received eight calls which turned out to be false alarms.  Two of those were from 543 Cascade Rd.
