Police Blotter: $10,000 Bond for DWI, $30,000 Jewelry Missing and A Cyclist Runs a Stop Sign

Police reports for Sept. 7-12, 2010.

 

The following arrest information was supplied by the New Canan police department. It does not indicate convictions.

DWI, Bond Set at $10,000

On Sept. 7 Gary Parr, 27, of Woodbridge, Conn., turned himself into New Canaan police on a warrant for operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs that was served for a May 13, 2010 incident.  On that date Darien police notified New Canaan police they were attempting to stop Parr's vehicle as it traveled north on Old Stamford Rd.  The operator was traveling slowly and weaving within the lane.  New Canaan officers stopped the vehicle on Old Stamford Rd. near Park Lane.  Parr, who is believed to have consumed alcohol and taken prescription drugs, was transported to a hospital.  Bond was set at $10,000.  Parr is to appear in court on Sept. 21.

Burglary: Jewelry Boxes Missing

Police responded to an alarm at a Bickford Lane residence at 1:26 p.m. on Sept. 7 and discovered forced entry to a door at the rear of the home.  Residents, who were not at home at the time of the burglary, reported two jewelry boxes missing.  The value of the missing items was not reported.

 

Cyclist Runs Stop Sign in Vehicle-Bike Accident

On the afternoon of Sept. 8, a  31-year-old driver traveling west on West Rd. stopped at the stop sign before making a left turn onto Lost District Rd. when he heard a "thud."  He had struck the rear tire of a bicycle being ridden by a 46-year-old Greenwich resident.  The cyclist, who had been traveling south on Lost District reported that she had seen the vehicle stopped and had driven through the stop sign without stopping.

An ambulance was called, but the cyclist, who reported minor injuries, was not transported to the hospital.  Her bicycle sustained damage to the rear tire.

The cyclist was issued a verbal warning for stop sign violation.

 

Family Dispute

On the afternoon of Sept. 11 police responded to a report of a family dispute between Irma Restrepo, 52, and her 20-year-old daughter.  A verbal argument at the family residence on Parade Hill Rd. escalated and the mother notified police.  Restrepo was issued a misdemeanor summons for disorderly conduct.

 

$30,000 Jewelry Reported Stolen

A 52-year-old woman reported to police that she discovered $30,000 worth of jewelry missing after holding an indoor tag sale at her residence on Stoneleigh Rd.

The tag sale was held from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the first floor of her home.  At 7:21 p.m. the complainant discovered three items missing from an upstairs room.  The three items missing are an 18 karat gold bracelet valued at $5,000, a 14 karat white  gold necklace and bracelet set with large round beads, valued at $20,000, and a 14 karat white gold necklace with pave diamonds valued at $5,000.

 

DWI

On Sept. 12 at 8:22 p.m. an officer traveling east on Church St. in the direction of Main St. noticed a vehicle traveling westbound toward him.  As the vehicle approached it crossed the roadway into the officer's lane.  The officer turned around and stopped Tom C. Campbell, 49, of New Canaan.  When the officer asked Campbell for his license he detected the odor of alcohol and conducted a field sobriety test, which Campbell failed.  Campbell was taken into custody and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to drive right.  He posted $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 23.
