Pot, Un-Potted, and Young Vandals Cannot Tell A Lie

The following information was supplied by the New Canaan Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

From June 6 -12, the New Canaan Police Department recorded 12 motor vehicle violations, 12 motor vehicle accidents, 18 alarm calls, 38 medical assists and 29 location checks.

Narcotics Possession

Andrew J. Erickson, 20, of Old Studio Road, was charged with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after he was stopped by an officer who noticed the vehicle he was driving had a non-reflective license plate. Erickson was pulled over on Park Place, near Old Stamford Road at 7:58 p.m. on June 8. The officer approached Erickson’s car with K9 Zira, and asked the driver if there were any drugs in the vehicle. Erickson indicated he had a small amount of marijuana and a pipe in the center console. Zira did not detect any other drugs. A 19-year-old passenger was in the car with Erickson, who was released on a promise to appear in court on June 16.

Un-Potted at Tequila Mockingbird

At 1:22 a.m. on June 10, an employee of Tequila Mockingbird on Forest St. told police a customer had pulled a plant out of a pot outside the restaurant and dragged it along the sidewalk. By the time police arrived, the customer was gone and someone had re-placed the plant in the pot. Police were provided with a description of the car driven by the unruly customer, but the restaurant owner declined to press charges, asking only that the customer be told he was not to return to the restaurant again. Damage was placed at $50.

Family Dispute

Police responded to a call from a Hillside Ave. resident at 10:40 p.m. on June 10, reporting a dispute between a husband and wife. Thomas G. Connolly, 46, of Hillside Ave. was charged with disorderly conduct and second degree threatening. He was released on a promise to appear in court on June 13.

Attempted Burglary

A 64-year-old Lakeview Ave. resident told police she discovered a screen had been sliced and a sliding glass door had been shattered at her home. The resident said she had been away from Monday, June 6 until Friday June 10, but she did not notice the damage until June 11. Nothing was reported missing from the residence.

Young Vandals Fess Up

A caller phoned the police department on June 12 at 4:29 p.m. and reported seeing two youths breaking a rear window at 22 Pine St. The building was recently renovated and is currently unoccupied. The caller provided a description of the youths, and police responded to the area. Two youths approached the police car and said to the officers “We did this. I think you’re looking for us.” Police said one is a 14-year-old from Bedford, NY, the other is a 15-year-old from Fairfield. According to Sgt. Carol Ogrinc, of the Youth Division, it is likely the boys will have to make restitution for the damages, which were assessed at $200.
