Some Rain, More Wind Expected From Earl

After school activities cancelled, but conditions should be "standard" for tropical storm. Most activity expected between 7-11 p.m.

New Canaan remains on Tropical Storm Watch for this afternoon and evening, with more wind than rain expected according to Dave Jonker, the town's director of emergency preparedness.

"I'd say between 7:00 and 11:00 tonight would be the worst of it," he said.  We might get some rain, some thunderstorms, but nothing significant. We anticipate pretty standard conditions for a tropical storm."

Winds of between 15 and 20 miles per hour are expected, but nothing that would take down a lot of trees, Jonker said.

"It's supposed to pass east of Nantucket around 2:00 in the morning. There's a lot of concern for that area and region."

As the emergency preparedness team continues to monitor Earl's progress, Jonker said the silver lining in this storm is that 50 residents have signed up for the town's Emergency Call Out System in the past two days.

"This is good news.  We'll be better prepared for the next one," Jonker said.
