New Canaan Leads The State in Three CMT Scores
3rd grade readers, 4th grade writers and 8th grade scientists perform higher than goal.
Results for the Connecticut Mastery Test were released Wednesday by state education officials. New Canaan students led the state in three categories: the percentage of 3rd graders who read at/above the goal; the percentage of 4th graders who wrote at/above goal; and the percent of 8th graders who performed at/above goal in science.
The CMT, taken annually by more than 240,000 public school students in grades 3 through 8, consists of seven hours of testing in math, reading, writing, and — in 5th and 8th grades — science.
Students are graded on a scale of 1 ("below basic") to 5 ("advanced") on each section. Though the test is not pass/fail, Connecticut sets a goal range and a proficiency level for each grade and subject
